Default I'm so new it hurts...

Hi Guys,

I am so new to Guild Wars it is painful but I am after a bit of friendly advice, I hope you can help!

I only got the game for the first time last night and I have played a little bit, a few basic quests and I am now almost level 3. (wow!).

Q1. Will i be able to change my characters clothes eventually?
Q2. Guilds, If i create one / join one wot exactly does that mean, is it like a clan?
Q3. Anything else to help a total newguy?

Many thanks,

Rufus Dragan

1 - why, are you starting to stink?
you will come across various collectors and armor crafters that will improve your 5 armor pieces.
you can also dye them.
fyi --- if you find silver dye, that's worth ~600-700, and black is around 8k, I think.
but, you can't cash in on any of this until you're in 'postsear' --- right now, you're in 'presear' which is like a small training ground.

2 - yeah, it's like a clan.
you can hang out and adventure w/them, or you can get into the pvp side of it and play guild vs guild pvp teams.

3 - I will trade you a red dye for 3 black dyes.
if you don't like red, I also have yellow, reddish yellow, yelowish red, and orange.

1. Yes, as soon as you finish the tutorial part and enter post-searing Ascalon, then you can get new armor.

2. Guilds are pretty much like clans, yep.

3. Advice: Don't over OR underestimate henchies. They are useless if you use them wrong, or powerful if you exploit them properly. Just remember that they will do exactly what you tell them to, but nothing more. Also, you can't always count on the healer henchie to revive you, so with henchies, your life is priority 1.

FYI- black dye is worth way way more than red dye.

A1. Yes each character has different armor 4 sets at each level. It costs money and crafting materials.

A2. Guilds, it all depends on what you want to do... You can join a group and hope you get a good guild that can help you. Or if you are into the GvG or PvP aspect of the game you can get into a guild that does that as well. Or stick it out and be a lone wolf like some people are. Some people have a guild and do not GvG, they only do the RPG aspect of the game (Like Mine).

A3. IMO, for your first character I recommend playing the whole game as normal. Alot of the times people just hurry through and miss alot in pre-sear. Normally when leaving Pre-sear Ascalon if you have done everything possible you will be a lvl8-11. I say stick it out there. Then when you get to post sear you can pretty much mission and quest with PUG groups or if you decide to join a guild they will help you usually.

If you have any questions hit me up IG...

Save all black dyes, and sell them to the dye trader when you find them. I'd suggest finding a guild in presear and getting help from them... its usually faster. If you like the people, you can stay. If you dont, you can leave at a moment's notice.

Hi Rufus, welcome to GW. It's a great game, hope you're having fun.

1. You will be able to get better armor as you progress through the game. Generally, collectors' armor will be better than anything you can craft in a particular area. Talk to all collectors when you find them, just to see what they might offer you.

2. A guild is like a clan. When you form/join a guild, you will get a new "chat" tab called guild chat. You can talk to all your fellow members with that. You can get a guild hall, from which you can arrange guild battles (ranked or un). Capes and guild tags (the little extra letters you see after someone's name) serve to identify you and your members as belonging to the guild.

3a. You are in pre-searing, the so-called tutorial of the game. Do not tell Sir Tydus you are "ready to leave it all behind" (go post-searing) until you have done ALL the quests you can.

3b. If you find any dyes, KEEP them. Do NOT sell them to merchant or to another player until you reach post-searing and find their true value. There are a lot of scammers out there willing to pay 50gp for your black dye, when it sells at the dye trader in post for 7000.

3c. Save your money. Don't buy anything other than identification kits and salvage kits and extra storage bags (available in post).

Welcome to Guild Wars!
I have written a guide for newer players with information you might want to read. You can find it at http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=101795
Hope it's any use to you!

You can read this up in other places, but to make this quicker for you :

Q1 : Yes and no. You can buy differnt armors, and thus have differnt styles, but the catch is there is only a limited amount of armors and so the style just reapeat itself until like 15k armors which have same stats as Droks, but you can get those once you played for a long while and feel like haveing some goal to look forward to. Also : You can dye them too! I save my dyes but you can sell them (not to merchant!!!) to dye traders or other players.

Q2 : Guilds are another way to just meet new people and enjoy the company of REAL players and not just henchies. Thats of course if the other players are not busy or something. You can start one with friends and have your own little club or whatever too. My suggestion : Join one, try it out, don't like it (hit [G] - guild roster, and click your name and say leave)

Q3 : One main thing above AAAALLLL else, HAVE FUN! This is not a game to worry yourself about, if old idiots say your a noob its because they're one too and they just don't want to admit they ****. Or it's the truth... but still don't let them get to you. They seem to be driving people away from the game and if they do that... well... they can be AAAALLLL alone in a game with no friends.

1. You can change your clothes yes. Not to ruin the fun, but you get maximum armor in droknars forge later on in the game and when you get to a place called beacons perch you can get ran there - as a sort of short cut. Im saying you may want to save your money/materials for that armor.

2. Basicly a clan but caled guild yes. You can create one and leave it later or join one and leave it - no obligations.

3. Dont pay runners upfront. Pay after or halfway.

Dont farm till later in the game. Its pointless spending ages farming a lower level place to make 1k, when you can make that in five or ten minutes later (although black dye can drop just about anywhere,but....farm later).

The best characters for making money are monk, necro and warrior. Monks can farm many places. Warriors can also, or can run people places for money. Necro's can farm solo as well or are often wanted in two of the most common farm spots.

Farming by the way is fighting in specific areas to make gold (if you didnt know). I've emphasised money because whilst it isnt actually important to beat the game and do the missions/quests you want to do, it is if you want (slightly) better items or more stylish things.

Default Thankyou!

Wow! Thanks so much for all your help!

I am a total noob to this type of game, but I am loving it so far.

Another question, in the towns etc, what are all the people doing standing around / dancing etc?

Thanks

Sometimes they're waiting for other players or guild mates to join their party for a quest. Most of the times, they're doing exactly what you said, standing around and dacncing... that's it. Other times they're trying to sell stuff to other players or buy stuff from other players. To pass the time while trying to buy/sell or to wait for other party members or guildmates or even just to create a PUG (Pick Up Group), they will hit the emote to dance.

But, I swear... it's mostly because they have nothing better to do in-game or in real life.
